FAQs
Who can play at Severnside?
Severnside is always looking for new members. The standard is geared towards good club level players up to county level players.
If you're unsure if you play at a suitable standard, pop down for a session and have a hit and a chat with one of the committee, or reach out via our Contact Us page and we will get back to you.
Where and when do we play?

Do I need to be a club member?
Severnside offers many different opportunities to play badminton with different membership and payment structures.
The main focus of Severnside is doubles badminton; Men's, Ladies and Mixed, around which the club revolves and which operates on a membership system. The membership season runs from the beginning of September to the end of March and covers courts and shuttles for two club nights per week. Visitors are permitted up to a total of 6 times, paying a nominal visitors fee for each session, before being asked to join as a member if they are of suitable standard. For more information, please see the Doubles Club page
Severnside also offers a Singles Club and a Skills & Drills Coaching session each week, both of which are open to members and non-members and are Pay-to-Play. Numbers at each session are limited and so attendance can only be confirmed by booking a place via the club's WhatsApp group. Send us a message via our Contact Us page asking to be added to the community and we'll take it from there.
Do I need to be registered with Badminton England?
Yes. The club is registered with Badminton England and you as an individual also need to be registered to ensure you are covered by the club's insurance.
The basic level of Badminton England membership is included in your club membership fee, however, if you wish to compete in Badminton England sanctioned tournaments and competitions, then you will need to arrange the appropriate membership upgrade yourself.

How are the sessions run?
The club utilises a peg board to arrange games throughout the evening. Each player adds their own peg to the peg board when they arrive. The player that sits atop the peg board chooses 3 other players from the next 7 to form the next game and places all 4 pegs in the "Next on court" space. When a court becomes available, those players move their pegs to the space on the peg board that denotes the court they are playing on. When the game has finished, the pegs are returned to the bottom of the peg board waiting list with the winners being placed first followed by the losers.
If the attendance at any given session is such that there are numerous players of sufficiently wide playing ability, a committee representative may elect to split the session into lower and higher ability groups each allocated 2 courts to ensure games remain balanced, competitive and of suitable standard relative to the players in attendance.
